Board Member Toolkit
KCC mission is to provide high quality education services to young children with developmental delays, in partnership with families and communities. Our child-centered, evidence-based instruction prepares each student to enter the New York City public school system in the least restrictive environment possible.
We support families with training, guidance, and advocacy, and strengthen our school community through professional development and collaborations with local human service organizations. KCC is also committed to empowering a new generation of early childhood educators through our Grow Your Own Teacher Assistant and Teacher Training Program (GYO).

Board members are uniquely positioned to amplify KCC’s visibility, influence, and reach. The board’s contributions are pivotal to KCC’s success, extending beyond financial commitments. The Board will collaborate with KCC leadership and other board members to strategize and execute impactful initiatives.
1. Networking: Share KCC's materials with their own circles of influence, including businesses, philanthropists, and community leaders
Existing networks: Conduct outreach among personal and professional networks to share KCC's mission and news, with the goal of identifying interested supporters. Invite network on school tours, to school events (GYO graduation), to fundraising events (spring benefit), etc.
Targeted Advocacy: Identify key decision-makers and influencers—such as local politicians, community leaders, and corporate stakeholders—who can champion KCC’s mission and work with KCC staff / other board members to craft an approach.
2. Event Hosting and Sponsorship: Organize or sponsor small-scale gatherings with potential donors, corporations, and community leaders to build awareness and foster connections.
3. Corporate Partnerships:
Tap into professional networks to connect KCC with corporations that align with its mission, focusing on securing funding, pro-bono services, or in-kind contributions. Use Partnership 2-pager for guidance.
Note: Volunteer opportunities can be arranged for corporations that give in other ways, i.e. grants, pro bono services, in-kind contributions
4. Identify Opportunities to Feature KCC on Key Platforms:
Facilitate introductions to organizations that can feature Jeanne Alter or other KCC representatives in high-profile speaking engagements and media appearances.
