New Beginnings: Back to School
“I can do it myself!” Emily, 5 years old, is ready for Kindergarten
“I learned how children learn, and ow teachers help them express their intelligence.” Whitney, GYO graduate and Emily’s mother
Our first cohort of graduates from the Grow Your Own Workforce Development Program
September is a special time at the Kennedy Children’s Center (KCC), as we welcome returning students back to school and add new members to our growing community. Our mission is to establish a strong foundation for future success for both our students and their families, and the impact of our vital work can be seen in Emily and Whitney’s story below. By renewing your support today, you will help us reach even more families in the year to come.
Emily started preschool at KCC two years ago, receiving physical, speech, and occupational therapy. Inspired by Emily’s progress, Emily’s mother, Whitney, signed up for KCC’s Grow Your Own (GYO) Workforce Development program—a groundbreaking new program that provides hands-on classroom experience and professional development to train aspiring educators to enter the field of early childhood special education.
In June, Emily received her preschool diploma. Two months later, her mother became one of our first GYO program graduates. Emily is practicing putting on her new shoes for kindergarten—and Whitney is preparing to begin her new career as a special education Teacher Assistant this fall.
Thanks to your generosity, students like Emily have the skills and knowledge they need to be successful in Kindergarten this September. At the same time, parents like Whitney receive guidance and training to support their children – and countless others. By renewing your support for KCC today, you are supporting the children we serve, and the aspiring educators who learn alongside them.
Your support makes our work possible. Please join me today by investing in KCC’s life-changing programs for preschoolers with special needs, and the adult learners who are passionate about teaching them.
Sincerely,
Jeanne Alter
