SPECIAL EDUCATION PRESCHOOL

• Founded in 1958 as one of the first special education schools in the nation

• We serve more than 350 children between 3-5 years old at our schools in East Harlem and the Bronx

• We serve 100% public school students, who are referred to us because their local school cannot accommodate their needs

• More than 65% of our students present with characteristics of autism; more than 70% identify as Latinx; more than 85% qualify for SNAP or Medicaid benefits; 100% are adorable!

GROW YOUR OWN AT KCC

Grow Your Own (GYO) is KCC’s nationally-recognized workforce program that recruits and trains low-income adults to become certified teacher assistants and teachers.

Due to the ongoing teacher shortage, more than 10,000 preschoolers with special needs did not receive all of their services in 2023; and more than 1,000 sat at home and received no services at all.

GYO has the power to change that!

GYO’s record of success:

• More than 300 adults trained since 2018

• 90% program completion rate

• Nearly 80% have secured a job in education within 3 months of completing the 6-week program
